Frank Gehry is an American architect with many buildings that have become world-renowned attractions. His works are considered among the most important of contemporary architecture. His best know works are the Guggenheim Museum in Spain; the Walt Disney Concert Hall; and the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.

Gehry was born in Toronto, and was influenced by spending weekends in his grandfather’s woodshop. This is evidence in his work as he relies heavily on the use of corrugated steel, chain link fencing, and other “everyday” materials. His career was launched by the design of his residence in Santa Monica, CA. His work reflects a spirit of experimentation while still respecting the demands of the professional practice. His style is based in the modernist style, but works to disrupt expectations. He combines the idea of unfinished “crude work” with the sophisticated styles of European art history and contemporary art. However, some dismiss his work as wasting materials on creating functionless forms.
